Magic Lessons #29 – Clipped Card Trick
The Clipped Card Trick is neat little magic trick that can be downloaded and used at a moments notice. This magic trick has been around for a while and can usually be found in places such as Christmas Crackers or in Cereal packets, although it is astounding how many people have never accounted this magic trick before.
Clipped Card Trick Differences:
The version found in this video tutorial has two noticeable differences to the standard versions of the Clipped Card Trick you will find out and about. The first is it has a picture of me on the middle red card, I’d say it greatly improves the magic and visual appeal of the trick.
The second major difference is I have altered the cards positioning on the face side so when the participant clips the card with the clip, even if they have encountered this trick beforehand and place it to the side they will still miss clipping the card in the center (Which is the aim of the trick.) This change will give you added confidence as it will eliminate a many of the people who will try and ruin your trick as very few people will place the clip that far along.
If by some freak chance someone manages to pick the magic trick and get it right, I give you a funny out that will diffuse the situation.
I have included a script below that I use and you can see how the words work with the actions in the video.
Here’s the script for the clipped card trick as I say it:
I’ve got a little card here. on one side there are five cards. Four are black and one is red and the red is … in … the …??
(Audience member says ‘middle’)
“I see you’ve done well at school….”
TURN CARD TO SHOW BACK
“Here’s the back of the cards … and it says if you want to learn magic tricks then go to Julian’s Magician School…”
TURN CARD TO SHOW FRONT AGAIN
“What I need you to do to start the trick is clip the red card for me…”
AUDIENCE MEMBER CLIPS WHAT THEY THINK IS THE MIDDLE CARD
“Let’s see how you went… aww, you were close… so close…”
At this point I reveal to the participant how it’s done and give them one to take away and use on other unsuspecting audiences. If you have downloaded and printed this magic trick from Magic Tricks For Kids then you may not give it away but it’s nice to let the participant in on the trick so as not to come off as ‘too smart’.
