Magic Lessons #58 – Lucky Coin Trick
This simple lucky coin trick creates the illusion that you are able to locate double-headed coins where no one else can.
There are rumors that finding a double-headed coin brings luck to the finder, similar to the four-leaf clover myth, so people are naturally keen to find one.
Double-headed coins are also supposedly worth a lot of money. Unfortunately this is not the case. These coins are only made for magicians and pranksters like me. You will probably never see one in out in the world.
Occasionally a magician will forget that they are holding a double-headed coin and accidentally use it when making a purchase. That is one of the only ways you will ever find one of these coins randomly. If you ever do stumble upon one, be sure to remember there is a magician out there who is very grumpy that they lost their prop.
Are They Worth Any Money?:
No they aren’t. You might be able to get about $3 to $10, which is the same price a new one is worth at a magic dealer or prop store.
It is virtually impossible for a double headed coin to be produced as the presses are designed with fail safe mechanisms to prevent a mistake like this to occur.
It is rumored that there is a coin floating around that was made at the San Francisco mint that was stuck to in a plate that malfunctioned. This coin is not displayed.
Helpful Tips to Remember When Performing the Lucky Coin Trick:
- Your index finger should be pointing at right angles to the direction you are facing. This assists in ensuring that the position is correct. If this unclear, be sure to watch the accompanying video for some help.
- The illusion is easier to pull off if the crowd is in close and they are watching from directly above the coin. This really helps sell the trick.
- This tricks works well with any size coin, big or small.
The timing of the lucky coin trick is important. Try not going too fast or too slow.
