Magic Lessons #15 – Newspaper Magic Trick

Newspaper Mind Reading Magic Trick

Mind Reading Magic Trick - Newspaper Magic Trick - Magic Tricks For KidsGet in now and do this newspaper magic trick before newspapers disappear. Only joking… They will be a round for a long time yet. This whole secret relies on very simple maths. (It has to be simple otherwise I would never go near the trick … so when I say I can do it, you can do it, I really mean it).

This secret is not written up very often, which is a shame, as it makes for a quite mystifying fast impromptu magic trick.

The simple secret is that if you take any sheet from a newspaper spread you will have on that sheet four printed pages, two from the front section and two more pages from the rear.

Look oNewspaper Clip Art Image - Newspaper Magic Trick - Magic Lessons #15 - Magic Tricks For Kidsn the top of each of these pages and you will see page numbers. If we pulled off the outside sheet, it would have pages 1 and 2 on one side and in our example here, pages 34 and 35 on the other side. If you add these page numbers up they come to a total of 72. Now grab any other sheet from the same newspaper spread and the 4 page numbers on that sheet will also add up to 72. This is true for all the pages in that particular newspaper. Every newspaper will be a different number but it will be the same number for that particular newspaper.

So once you know your special number – which you find out in advance – you are ready to do an impromptu magic miracle.

Find an audience (just someone in your family will do fine) and them to pull out any page from the paper – promise there will be no peeking by you – and then add up the page numbers. Write this down and commit it to memory.

Here’s a few magic tips from Robert Byrnes who viewed the newspaper magic trick on Magic Tricks For Kids:

  1. To find the number of your prediction, just look at the number on the back page, double it and add 2. That’s it.
  2. The magic trick can still be done in exactly the same way even if there is a single sheet in the centre of the paper. The prediction is found in the same way. You could simply remove the single sheet before starting the trick or tell people not to choose it.

Thank you Robert for improving this newspaper mind reading magic trick.
