Magic Lessons #1 – Paper Bag Magic Trick

Magic Lessons #1 – Paper Bag Magic Trick

Paper Bag

For the “Paper Bag Magic Trick” You will need:

  • A paper bag
  • Tissues/shoelaces/silk hankies/cards

A few tips before you start:

Magic Lessons #1 – Paper Bag Magic Trick, teaches this easy to do magic trick with instructions that are easy to follow. These magic lessons teach easy magic tricks to kids and adults who are looking to get into magic. This lesson shows the paper bag magic trick – a great easy to do trick that you can use to change a variety of things like shoe laces – put them in and they came out tied together. Or put in torn pieces of card and bring out a restored card. This a tool that you can use to transform something – in magic the term used is ‘transformation’.

Step 1:

For the Paper Bag Magic Trick all you need to know about how to make the magic trick is in the video. But there is something that is not included in the video… It is a very useful tip, a secret that even most magicians won’t know. These magic lessons teach more than just how to do tricks, but also about performance and tips you can apply when performing your magic tricks. The lesson is no different. I share one single tip that is so useful, you will be able to use it again and again in about half of the routines you’ll perform in your magic career.

The secret involves the showing of the bag (or the box or the coin purse or any other box/drawer/changing device us magicians use) being empty… with the words: “Look! The bag is empty!” and then goes to prove it by showing the audience the box/bag/drawer etc… All that does is make the spectators dubious. Why do you need to prove to anyone that it is empty?

HERE IS THE BIG TIP:

To show your audience that the bag (purse/drawer/box etc.) is empty, empty it in front of them. Have your bag full of stuff that you can take out in front of them, one by one. They can then see the bag is ‘empty’ and you don’t have to prove that it is – you have just done that without having to say: “Look! The bag is empty!” This very subtle method of emptying a bag or box or drawer in front of someone creates a subconscious message in their minds of ‘that bag is now empty’. You can use this with a change bag, stuffed full of props, silks or soft teddies and remark ‘Who has been stuffing these things in my bag when I wasn’t looking. Use it with a pack of cards… Stick the ‘special card’ you want to produce/swap places etc inside the card box. When you empty all the other cards out of the box, your audience will have in the minds ‘The box is now empty, I can see all the cards on the table.’ Remember this technique – it is so subtle yet so effective.

Well done!

You have completed this effect in magic lessons series and you have learned how to do the paper bag magic trick!

Remember the secret tip I have shared with you to use in other similar effects.
